The Museum acknowledges that it holds its collection in public trust and recognizes the importance of preservation and conservation of the collection for the benefit of present and future generations of stakeholders.
The Museum also recognizes that stewardship of collections is at the heart of the access, education and social inclusion agendas, and that good management, acquisition, cataloguing and preservation are crucial to the maintenance of sustainable access to its collection.
The MIA Conservation Policy:
The Museum will undertake all procedures necessary to ensure the preservation of the objects entrusted to its care.
In summary, the Museum will: - Provide systems to monitor the state of the objects, environments and warehousing.
- Take measures to slow deterioration and prevent damage of objects.
- Manage and improve the state of objects, environments and warehousing.
- Implement and provide the resources for programs of work in line with this policy.
- Periodically review the effectiveness and efficiency of the policy and its implementation.
- Continuously review research and publications on conservation methodology with a view to being current on all developments.
- Provide advice and support, within the Museum's competence, to individuals and other institutions.
- Achieve current standards of conservation and professional practice measured against appropriate benchmarks
